Since 1986, the mill residents have organised the Mill Festival at the mill of Rotselaar. Every year around 15 August, you can enjoy fun activities, good food and drink in good company near the Dijle river. This year, the festivities take place in the weekend of 17 and 18 August.
This edition is dedicated to the theme of ‘heat’. The mill of Rotselaar is a pilot project of the European project AquaCOM. The mill site will have a heat network, provided by heat from the Dijle river.
Find out all about the works on this pilot site during the AquaCOM Open Day at the mill festivities. You will have the opportunity to take a tour of the mill, check out the information stand for more information on the AquaCOM plans, or take part in the (children's) quiz on aquathermal energy.
The tours will take place every hour and start at the AquaCOM stand. Join one to learn about aquathermal energy, the pilot site of Rotselaar and why aquathermal energy in citizen cooperatives is so important!
The mill and Ecopower: A 30-tear marriage
Rotselaar's mill is the birthplace of the citizens' cooperative Ecopower. At the kitchen table of the mill, Ecopower was conceived and raised. The small hydropower plant in the Dijle river dates from 1902 and today produces green citizen power for some 250 Ecopower households. You can read more about this project in the project sheet on the website of Ecopower.
The mill festivities are the perfect time to celebrate the birth and history of Ecopower and learn more about the AquaCOM project. Everyone is welcome!
Take a look at the agenda on Ecopower's website and don’t forget to subscribe for the brunch on Sunday.
