City of Lorient
Due to the large coastline of the Lorient, several locations for the pilot project are being investigated. Energy will be extracted either from the Scorff river or directly from the ocean via a closed loop (submerged exchanger) or an open loop (suction strainer) system. Connected buildings which would be supplied with aquathermal energy would include a naval industrial company, a hospital, co-housing projects, public buildings and fish-processing industries.
This system would be linked to a heating network supplied with locally sourced wood biomass. SPL BER has full control over wood supply management and is a renowned local expert in districts heating networks. The combination of these two energy technologies would help to achieve the city's carbon targets. This pilot project would be SPL BER's first aquathermal energy project and would also act as a regional and national reference site in terms of aquathermal energy.
