Watch our Workshop: Aquathermal Energy Projects in Action

On 13 February,  our partner Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg hosted the fourth edition of the AquaCOM Workshop Series, featuring two successful Early Adopter Energy Communities in the Netherlands and Ireland.

Despite their different contexts, both stories centre on strong community engagement and a shared ambition to decarbonise heating while lowering energy costs.

In the Netherlands, Eigen Warmte Balk is bringing together residents and local businesses in Balk to develop a district heating network powered by water and residual heat. Meanwhile, in Ireland, Glenstal Abbey Sustainable Energy Community is harnessing heat from a nearby lake to warm its abbey and school, while taking great care to ensure the technology has minimal impact on the exceptional natural landscape in which it is located.
